charity:water

charity:water is a nonprofit organization that installs wells in underdeveloped villages across the globe. As the primary source of water for many communities, understanding the status of these wells is a lifesaving measure. Therefore, charity:water collaborated with the Twisthink team to develop a sensor device capable of collecting well data and storing it in the cloud.

During this project, I led the creation of the component library and developed a prototype that was used to walk clients through our progress at each stage. We worked closely with stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of their needs and preferences, and used this information to create a site architecture map and high-fidelity wireframes.

Our primary objective was to improve the user experience by designing a dashboard that was both user-friendly and informative. By prioritizing ease of use and simplicity, we were able to create a dashboard that provided quick and actionable insights to users.

The Problem

Charity:water's team required an efficient means of accessing data collected from the well sensors, enabling them to promptly determine if the well was operational or in need of repair. Additionally, they needed to visualize the location of these sensors in relation to one another to optimize repair and maintenance efforts.

The Solution

Our team designed an intuitive dashboard with a user-friendly interface. Simplicity was a priority, and we focused on creating a main list page that allowed users to compare multiple sensors, as well as individual sensor pages for more in-depth analysis. To make the data and map views easily comprehensible, we utilized simple yet effective visualizations. Additionally, we included a feature that allowed users to add new sensors to the database, enabling them to expand the system as needed.
