So, where to begin?

It all started with a passion...

From a young age, I've been passionate about all things art and design. However, like many aspiring creatives, I was hesitant to pursue a career as a "starving artist." As someone who loves food, that wasn't an option for me! So, in 2014, I enrolled at Central Michigan University to explore other pathways. I tried my hand at various subjects, but my love for design kept pulling me back. It was clear that this was my calling. In 2018, I made the decision to transfer to Kendall College of Art and Design to deepen my knowledge of design and strategy, particularly in the digital world. It was there that I discovered my passion for problem-solving through creative execution.

After starting my career with various graphic design roles, I joined Twisthink, a company specializing in digital strategies for the IoT space. Although I began as a graphic designer, I quickly discovered a passion for user experience. I thrived in tasks like crafting dashboards, managing component libraries, mapping user flows, addressing accessibility issues, structuring site architectures, and building prototypes. For the first time, my career felt perfectly aligned with my detail-oriented skills.

My journey continued at TaxAct, where I focused on both design and research in product design. Here, I refined my abilities through moderated and unmoderated user testing, A/B testing, root cause analysis, heuristic evaluations, and creating learning plans. I also led design workshops and contributed to developing design libraries, all while learning the crucial role of data and user feedback in guiding effective solutions.

When the company was sold, I quickly transitioned into a new role at Subsplash—a move that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It offered me valuable insight into working at a SaaS company and deepened my understanding of the mobile app landscape. During my time there, I had the opportunity to design key features such as filtering, custom fields, phone-based login, and data management tools to help clients effectively manage their customers. I also developed group event creation and attendance tracking features, allowing users to leverage their data for improved engagement. Additionally, I took on end-to-end user research responsibilities, from planning and conducting sessions to analyzing insights that informed product decisions.

During my career I have gained valuable experience in human-centered design practices and have learned the importance of developing a robust and thoughtful strategy to determine a project's feasibility and viability. Although I've always had a natural inclination towards visual design, I'm confident that my background and expertise make me a great fit for any role that involves improving the user experience.

Through my education and work experience, I've learned a lot not just about design, but also about myself. I value honesty, creativity, positivity, ambition, and adventure. Most of all, I love connecting with new people.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s connect!

Working the process

When I approach design, I prioritize a mobile-first strategy to ensure that our solutions are responsive and visually appealing across all devices. By focusing on mobile-first design, we create a seamless experience that performs well regardless of screen size.

I balance user needs with business objectives, ensuring that even when working quickly, our solutions are grounded in solid UX principles. This means we base our designs on genuine user feedback, addressing real problems and aligning with business goals.

Collaboration is key to successful design, so I actively seek to build strong relationships with cross-disciplinary teams. By working together, we bridge gaps and align our efforts, ultimately creating the best possible outcome for both users and the business.

Doing the groundwork

Before starting any design project, I ask several key questions to guide my approach:

What are the core user needs and pain points? I begin by understanding the target audience and their challenges to ensure the design addresses real problems and enhances the user experience.

How does this project align with business objectives? I examine how the design can meet business goals while integrating user feedback, ensuring that the solutions are both effective and strategically sound.

What is the most effective way to design for all devices? I prioritize a mobile-first approach to create a responsive design that looks and functions seamlessly across different screen sizes and devices.

Who are the key stakeholders, and how can we collaborate effectively? I identify and engage with cross-disciplinary teams to foster strong partnerships, ensuring that we bridge gaps and align our efforts for the best possible outcomes.

These questions help me to create designs that are user-centered, strategically aligned, and collaborative, ultimately delivering value to both users and the business.
